Bounded Context: a satirical software project game
Every software project has the same cast: the developer who wants to rewrite it in Gleam, the Product Owner with one “small” addition, and upper management who just read about agentic AI.
Bounded Context is a browser game about leading a team through all of that. You pick a project, a tech stack and an approach (DDD, Quick & Dirty Monolith or Microservices), then try to ship every feature with good enough quality before the deadline and the budget run out.
Along the way you hire people, book domain experts for workshops, survive a consultancy’s “assessment” and give the AI a job every night. Each of the three projects favours a different approach, so DDD isn’t always the right answer, even here.
Under the jokes there’s a deterministic simulation in plain TypeScript, which runs headlessly in tests and in a script that checks how well different strategies win. The office is drawn in Phaser 3 with no image assets.
A game takes about twelve minutes, and you can play it in the browser.
